The Best

What is “the best” for one person may not be “the best” for the next. Just thought I’d point that out. Here are some of my besties today.

Could this be the best chocolate cake recipe ever? You bet!

I have found the best black eyeliner. You have to wet a brush and apply, but it ROCKS and stays. Enough said.

Best photos of dogs ever site

Best online holiday magazine in existence. Read it. No, really.

Tuesday Blues…

…But in a good way. I love how blue is sort of a crisp alternative during this overwhelmingly red and green holiday season.

This is like a Tiffany girl’s dream. But the white tree is stunning, and so is Fido.

White, blue, modern and gold

I had to throw this blue door in here. I mean…stunning, right?

Go paint those toes blue, and then swoon over this blueberry cake.

Monday Motivations

It’s hard to get motivated after a long weekend, but yet…here we are (no choice!). I am trying to remember the gratitude part of the holiday – and be thankful for a new week and new opportunities, right?! Hey, at least we have another few holidays right around the corner to get ready for.

Motivator one: There’s more baking opportunities coming up. This chocolate peppermint chunk cookie is so fancy it disappears!

Motivator two: Let’s make X-mas doilies! With recycled stuff.

Motivator three – this candy pie, which you could totally adjust for Hanukkah! Blue & white!

Motivator four: This cute wisdom tooth. Everyone should get one of these after that visit to the oral surgeon.

Motivation five: This cool bolt bracelet – which is a perfect gift – my friend actually made one of these – I will be sure to share her DIY when I get it!

Final motivator for Monday. Cuteness never fails.

Gratitude is Pretty

Thanks to everyone who has ever read Sumpretty! I hope you all have a day that is happy, healthy, peaceful and full of nothing but love.

3 Words: Pumpkin Crunch Cake

This is my favorite dessert to make. People talk about it for months afterwards, too. I cannot take credit for the recipe – my mom has been making this for years. I remember a few Thanksgivings ago, she didn’t plan on making it. I was bewildered and said, “What!?” She quickly pulled out all of the ingredients and I had my pumpkin crunch cake. That is why she is the best mom ever.

Pumpkin Crunch Cake – the recipe

1 – Yellow Cake Mix

1 and 1/2c Melted butter

4 eggs

1 30 oz can of Pumpkin

1c Sugar and 1/2c brown sugar

2/3can evaporated milk

1-1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1/2c chopped pecans

Remove 1 cup of the cake mix and set aside.  In small bowl beat one egg, add the remaining cake mix and 1 stick of butter. Press into greased 9/13 pan.

In another bowl beat the remaining 3 eggs.  Stir in the pumpkin, ½ sugar, 1/2 brown sugar, milk & cinnamon.  Pour over cake mix.

To the 1 c reserved cake mix add remaining 1/2c sugar, pecans and 1/2 stick of butter.  Mix until crumbly. Sprinkle over pumpkin mixture.  Bake at 350 for 50-60 minutes.

It might make you this happy:

Swinging Tuesday

Two days before turkey day! I’ve got cranberries on the brain for some reason. Please don’t skimp on them – it’s a travesty, those canned ones ( just my opinion!) How about having a nice Cranberry Clafoutis?

One of my recent finds is cranberry shadow – it really makes the eyes pop. Apparently Twilight queen Kristen Stewart is also a fan.

Don’t forget how wonderful this time of year should be … when you’ve got cranberry shadow on and cranberry sauce to snack on.

Enjoy the day doing something simple and sweet – this little guy certainly is!

Back to Basics

This Monday is better than most. It’s a three day work week! Today is just about random acts of beauty, and things to admire. Like this outfit, which I am obsessed with. Love the jeans rolled up, the polka dot sweater, all of it.

I’ve been looking for a gold pendant on a longish chain, and this one is sort of perfect. As is the price!

A pretty pink palette. Look at these colors. LOVE.

Another great outfit. I would never have thought of this combo – it so works.

Finally, adoring this sweater, the patch, the color and whole casual cool look.

Have a chill Monday and a cool week. I will be hitting the gym Monday through Wednesday in preparation!

Wrap it up…

I’ll take all of it. If you aren’t the proud owner of a faux fur vest, here’s some enticing info for you… not only do they keep you warmer, they are stylish (duh). Also a great gift idea.

Vest I love number one: Via Urban Outfitters

No, this isn’t a vest, but the cutest shirt I have ever seen, from Free People. Must.

Back to vests. Love this whole look. The bun, The shirt, pants.

This H&M vest is super cute and super cheap. How it is this price…I have no idea.

I will leave you with cozy vibes for the weekend. Take a minute to enjoy a warm drink and take it all in.

No Bake Cake

Not all of us are brave enough to turn on the oven to 350 and get out our mixers. Here’s a cake for you – the no bake chocolate peanut butter wafer cream cake! I might try this over the holidays and see what happens.

While you are working it out in the kitchen, you want to be wearing comfy kicks, right? I guess the 5-inch wedges won’t work all the time. I discovered these cool/cute flats by one of my faves, Marc by Marc Jacobs.  Yay!

After you are done in the kitchen, kick back in your cute flats with a hot cup of tea and these adorable handwarmers. Hand and legwarmers are back in a big way this season – sort of the it gift, if I do say so myself.

Finally, after you’ve had a chance to chill for a bit – go create a perfect heartshaped photo collage in your bedroom! J/K  – but had to share this because it is a fantastic idea.

Pets & Pies

I am sure any pet would love this pie. They may not like some of the other items below, but you will. Now, back to the sweet potato pie with marshmallow meringue. Yum.

It’s starting to rain, which is a huge pain when my mini Aussie Buster wants to go for his daily walk. He stares at the door, sending me telepathic messages. This doggy rain slicker just may be the answer, although I will need to get him a more masculine color combination than this. He is an alpha dog, after all.

Veering off track for a second, I am in love with these tiny string lights. They would go perfectly on your tiny tree.

Buster wears his red bow tie on special occasions. Now he can wear one every day, thanks to this ingenious leather doggy collar. Isn’t this photo gorgeous?
